NYS Unified Courts System Chooses OnSSI for Video Surveillance Coverage of all NYS Court Facilities, Adds 100's of Cameras
Courts' surveillance system hailed as most sophisticated in the country
New York, NY – May 25, 2006 – The New York State Unified Courts System (NYS-UCS), as part of a statewide deployment, has recently extended the reach of its OnSSI-powered IP video surveillance system by adding hundreds of cameras in courthouses, office building and public areas in the NYC region. In addition, NYS-UCS will increase its usage of OnSSI's NetGuard remote clients and NetSwitcher virtual video matrixes, for both centralized control and decentralized access to recorded content.
Background:
Following 9/11, and more recently the courthouse shooting in Atlanta, GA, the need for increased security in the NYS Courts system was intensified - as was the pace of transitioning from a in-house developed pilot project to a full-blown, statewide system that would enable not only powerful event monitoring but also real-time event management as well as after-the-fact investigation.
The NYS-UCS eventually chose OnSSI's non-proprietary, open-architecture NetDVMS NVR platform as the backbone of the system, for its unlimited scalability, powerful features and most importantly, its unparalleled reliability. OnSSI's commitment to extensive camera support assures the system's compatibility with all leading manufacturers' current and future IP cameras. Access to live video, and to the terabytes of recorded video stored in multiple locations throughout the state, is done using off-the-shelf PCs and monitors running the NetGuard and NetGuard-EVS video clients, as well as through the NetSwitcher control room management software and the NetPDA portable client.
The Courts' video surveillance system is unique in the judicial branch of government, in terms of size, centralized control and forward looking. The system, which according to the NYS-UCS will eventually reach a few thousands of cameras in size, is deployed gradually as coverage propagates northward, with NYC and nearby suburbs already adequately covered. Full advantage is taken of the NYS-UCS's enormous bandwidth capacity and the newest developments in camera, storage and network video recording (NVR) technology.
The NYS-UCS system employs two command and control centers, where security officers use OnSSI's simple, map-driven touch-screen interface controller to drill down and control cameras all over the network. Recorded and archived video content, stored in multiple locations, can be transparently and instantaneously assembled into a single, synchronous-playback view for after-the-fact investigation, including digital PTZ into the recorded images.
Gadi Piran, President & CTO of OnSSI, noted "The NYS Unified Courts System project is representative of the direction in which IP video surveillance is heading – complete integration and convergence between the security, IT and IP facets of the organization, and reliance on advanced technologies for automating monitoring and investigation processes. Being chosen by the NYS Courts was for us both an honor and a proof of concept".
